We want to take a moment to express our gratitude to Simone Paganetto from I’m Plastic Free who collaborated with Eternal World on our recent Sustainability and Circular Economy workshop on 19th November.

The workshop looked at the sustainability system, the role of businesses in change towards sustainability, and how the circular economy can equip businesses with practical tools to transition towards more sustainable practices in their respective industries.

It is always a pleasure to work with colleagues who are as passionate about sustainability as we are, and Simone Paganetto is one of those amazing people who inspires us to make changes for a sustainable world.

Free Sustainable Community Frameworks Workshop

We are travelling to northern New South Wales in November to deliver a Sustainable Community Frameworks workshop. Combining local disaster recovery with sustainable future urban and community designs is the focal point of this workshop. This is an interactive event outlining the structure of Sustainable Community Frameworks for re/development of community and urban design.  Topics such as systems thinking, values-based approaches to community design, utilising existing infrastructures, sustainable development goals in the local context, tackling inertia, citizen science, and exemplars of sustainable urban and community designs from across the globe, will be discussed. We are excited to announce the upcoming Sustainability and Circular Economy half-day workshop. Presented by Dr. Kim Polistina and Simona Paganetto, this workshop will equip your business with the tools to identify sustainable practices, optimise resource use, reduce waste, and implement circular strategies to enhance operational efficiency and resilience.

SUSTAINABILITY SESSION

Dr. Kim Polistina from Eternal World has over 30 years of experience in designing and implementing sustainability projects, education and training programmes, and research. Her session provides an engaging and informative experience, designed to equip participants with practical tools and insights for implementing a systems-thinking approach to sustainability in their personal, community, and professional lives. 

Through interactive sessions, attendees will explore key elements of the sustainability domains, the values that underpin them, and the current Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). One key element of various sustainability domains is minimising waste. This session establishes the groundwork for our upcoming discussion on the circular economy.

CIRCULAR ECONOMY SESSION

Simona Paganetto from I’m Plastic Free has over 15 years of commercialisation experience, and a decade serving in international brand management roles. She is a certified Circular Economy Specialist by the Circular Economy Alliance. This session offers participants an understanding of sustainable business practices designed to minimise waste and maximise resource efficiency. 

Discussions will cover the core principles of the circular economy. Participants will leave equipped with practical insights and tools to transition towards more sustainable practices, ultimately contributing to a reduction in environmental impact and fostering innovation in their respective industries.

Talking Sustainability with Meridan State College Year 11 Business Students

It is always uplifting to work with futures thinking schools such as Meridan State College. They are leading the change in education engaging with sustainability knowledge and skills across the entire school curriculum from prep to Year 12.   

Working with their Year 11 Business students, Eternal World’s Dr. Kim Polistina, led an interactive session exploring in detail the concept of sustainability and helping students recognise its critical importance in today’s business landscape.

Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) # 4 aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promotion of lifelong learning opportunities for all (1).  Target 4.7 in this goal seeks to guarantee that all learners acquire the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development, sustainable lifestyles, human rights, gender equality, promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence, global citizenship, and appreciation of cultural diversity and of culture’s contribution to sustainable development.  

These elements along with the other sixteen SDGs were investigated by the Meridan State College Business students as they examined businesses, they believed to be sustainable. This hands-on approach provided a comprehensive understanding of how businesses can integrate sustainability into their operations.  Students found the session both eye-opening and thought-provoking, gaining valuable insights into how business can contribute to a better, more sustainable, world.

Local Sustainability Heroes – Scleroderma Association of Qld.

Sometimes local sustainability heroes are silent achievers.

Scleroderma is a group of diseases with a common symptom: hardening and tightening of the skin. It is a rheumatic disease, and symptoms include inflammation, pain, swelling and stiffness in the joints, tendons, ligaments, bones, muscles, and/or tissues. It is also an autoimmune disease (1). 

There is no cure (yet) for Scleroderma.

The volunteers and committee of the Scleroderma Association of Queensland are one such group of silent achievers.  This group unwittingly implements many elements of the sustainability domains.  Working tirelessly for those affected by Scleroderma and their families, they implement cultural sustainability by increasing their good health and well-being, social sustainability by providing strong, safe, and inclusive communities, and economic stability through their many fundraising efforts. 

Distributing vital resources and information, establishing online support groups or simply being a friend to those learning to live better with Scleroderma are just some of the invaluable actions provided by those involved with this association.

This Week’s Local Sustainability Heroes

The Station

When the previous owners had to leave the Night Quarter the complex fell silent until it was given a new lease of life as The Station.   The new owners have developed a management style that has sustainability at its core.  ‘It’s fun with a conscience’ is their motto and they do everything they can to preserve the planet we share through their daily business practices. 

From recycling, reusing, and repurposing everything to help reduce landfills.  The design of the complex highlights their commitment to sustainability, such as recycled and refurbished shipping containers, furniture, eco-friendly water dispensers, food containers, and glassware. 

They offset their carbon footprint and do their bit to fight climate change by donating 100% of the proceeds from eligible containers recycled through the Containers for Change program to the Reforest organisation, which plants trees in local reforestation projects.

They source ingredients locally, working with local producers, brewers and distillers.  Their social inclusion processes, including, designing the site to be accessible for all mobility levels.  They have a positive attitude towards reducing barriers to employment for people with additional needs, helping to increase the low employment rate for people with additional needs in Australia.

The importance of change towards a sustainable world cannot be overstated.  It is a responsibility we all share, yet change can be daunting, and the hardest part is knowing where to start.

Workshop content is tailored to the specific needs and circumstances of each client. Complete the entire three-day program or work progressively through individual modules. Together, we can inspire change, cultivate a mindset of sustainability, and take meaningful steps towards a more resilient and sustainable future.

New Workshop Sustainable Home Gardening and Lifestyles

We are pleased to announce that Meridan State College and Eternal World are working together to provide another Sustainable Home Gardening and Lifestyle workshop. We invite anyone interested in increasing their sustainability knowledge and home gardening skills to join us on this fun-filled and informative morning. 

Level up your sustainability knowledge and home gardening skills at this workshop led by Eternal World’s Director, Dr. Kim Polistina. In general, we will develop your knowledge and skills in home gardening and explore the elements of the sustainability domains. Come along and find out how your home can be the site of a more sustainable lifestyle.

There is a maximum of 15 spaces for the event so we urge those wishing to come to book quickly to secure their spot.
